Summer On It’s Way

All of a sudden it is the first week of June. The question that is looms on my mind is : Where did Spring go? The answer to that for me is a bit long. It was spent finding and settling in to a new job. That took an enormous amount of energy.

Some of the time was spent learning a new spin on an old hobby. I have learned to crochet food and dishes, ranging from bacon and eggs to a complete turkey dinner, with lots of trimmings. I have tried my hand at crocheting a variety of fruits and vegetables; glasses and cups of beverages. In the middle of this,my sewing skills have improved.

In order to do all of these things, some internet searches have been necessary. New techniques have been studied. Patterns new to me have been found, some free and some not free. Places like ArtFire and Etsy have been discovered. I have learned to use tags with my bookmarks on my browser. I have learned to use a size E or F hook with worsted wt. yarn.

My Dish and Wash Cloth Mania blog has taken considerable amount of time. Most of the pages have been checked and dead links removed. Many new links have been added. It is a wonderful labor of love. My amazement at the number and marvelous quality of designers. Working on this blog is always an adventure.

It is no wonder i have gone to sleep and waken with thoughts of fibers on my mind.

Lost In Stitching

I suddenly realized that it has been more than six weeks since I have written anything here. The time has flown by quickly!

I have been lost in stitching. The moderators of one of the groups to which I belong on Ravelry announced a contest which consisted of making Amigurumi Food. Up until that time I had been a very practical knitter and crocheter that would not indulge in making things for the fun of it. One must be practical.  I thought about taking part in the contest for a couple of days.  After doing some research on the topic and with a lot of encouragement from my husband, downloaded a simple pattern. My first project was Little Fried Egg by Ana Paula. I still recall my sheer joy and delight at completing it. I had never made anything like that before. Not only was it three dimensional, but it was fun!! I laughed and giggled with glee!!! Listening to me that day you would have gotten the impression that I had accomplished a great feat. For me, I had. that was the first time in my life I had ever made something just for the fun of it. I was hooked. This was the start of a new aspect of fiber arts for me.

Much of my free time that weekend was spent looking for; downloading and printing free patterns from the Internet. I also looked for books about amigurumi on line and went on successful  searches for them at some local bookstores and one nearby LYS. My fascination with making food was growing.

I discovered Easter Eggs by Nikki Anders on Ravelry. Not only are they quick and easy, but they are gorgeous and use so little time and yarn. In very little time, i was making one of these every few days. I found other patterns on her blog as well as on the blogs of others. Pattern searches on Ravelry and Google and  led me to more patterns, a lot of free ones and some for purchase. How awesome! There are patterns available for almost every food imaginable.

I began spending time every day making some food item. This soon became more than an addiction, it became an obsession. I stayed up late at night and got up early in the morning to play with yarn and food. There were days when all that meant only 10-15 minutes, but that was all right. At least it was a bit of time to play with my newly found interest.

As time went by, I discovered  ETSY. It was there that I discovered Crafty Anna and KTB Designs.
Wow! They sell patterns in sets and cute ones at that in my opinion.
Not only that, but based on price per pattern, they are not expensive. Now, several weeks later, I have a collection of patterns from
ETSY. There are other wonderful designers there as well. These two
happen to be my favorites.

At some point, I began to look at food in terms of color. For example:
is the inside of an apple Ivory or ecru? Is the inside of a banana
yellow or a different color? What is the best shade of red for the outside of an apple or carrot?  This has been  gloriously mind stretching. What a great way to learn to look at the world differently! I will never be the same.

Thank You Maile and Flo! Once again you have enriched my life and those around me forever.

Here are links to some sites related to sock. It is my hope that you find them useful.

It was brought to my attention a short while ago that I made a typo in this pattern regarding the Decrease Rows. It has now been corrected in all areas. The correction can be found here.

I apologize for any problems or inconvenience this mistake may have caused.
If there are any more problems with this or other patterns on this blog, please let me know so they can be fixed.

Correction to Rose Trellis Ensemble

It has recently been brought to my attention that there was an error in the pattern for the Rose Trellis Ensemble pattern.  The pattern has been corrected.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused to all of you who have used, or attempted to use this pattern.

Busy and Having Fun

The past couple of weeks have been busy, especially on the knitting front. I have been involved in making Ballband Cloths as part of a contest for a Ravelry group to which I belong. This has been taking as much time as I could spare. I did not get as many  cloths  made as I wanted to,but still had a lot of fun. One of my goals, which I met,  was to play around with color combinations and to try out shades of yarn I might not normally use. That was fun. There are still some color combinations I want to try, but they are on hold for now. It is time to turn my attention to other projects.

One of the things needing my attention is  a baby blanket as a gift for an acquaintance. The blanket is found here . It is being made with Shades of Spring. I have not decided if it going to have the crocheted border or not. It is an easy knit which is progressing fairly quickly. I started off using a 32 inch circular needle but have moved up to a 60 inch one to allow enough space for the growing number of stitches. This was a wise decision. I will post pictures once it is completed.

I finally got around to posting pictures of a Comfortghan I made for a friend who lost her son more than a year ago. The afghan is made from Red Heartv yarn in Paddy Dreen and Aran. The square is of my own design. It was a very special gift for a very special lady.

Have a fantastic week!

Excited!!

In the scope of life this is a minor thing, but at the moment it is a big issue. My Flickr Photo Album is working. I had to install Java in order to access a Chat Room for a knitting group to which I belong. After doing that, it dawned on me to check to see if that action made a difference on this blog. It did.  the one Photo Album I still have up is now  functioning properly!  I learned something I did not know before today. The next time there is a problem on this order I will double check to see if Java has been installed.

There are new Ballband cloths posted as of today. Take a look at them if you want. The ones I make are fairly small to meet my own needs and wants. The pattern is pretty simple once you get the hang of it. The possibilities are endless, in terms of size and color combinations.

Have a fantastic Day!!

More About Changes

After last night's post about problems with Flickr badges, I did a bit of research on the Flickr forums. It was most interesting and educational. The essence of what I learned is that there is a problem with the code used for the Flash badges. There is also a fix available involving making changes in the code. A lot of times I can handle doing such things, but this one went over my head despite my best efforts to make the appropriate changes.

I have written support at Flcikr requesting help. It is only fair that they recieve the courtesy of me patiently waiting a few days for a response. I am gladly doing this. In the meantime, my hands will be busy with knitting and crocheting. My current plan, if I don't hear from them with a solution in the next day or so, is to make a photo album on Typepad.

In the meatime, there is plenty to keep me busy. :)

Changes

Life has been busy. I have a lot to share about what is going on in my life related to fiber arts. Most of that will have to wait a few days until some blog related problems are solved.
My Flickr badges have not been working properly. Tonight I finally got frustrated with this to the point of deleting all of them. For the next few days, I will be looking for alternative solutions for displaying my work. I am not happy with this, but at this time cannot think of a better solution to my frustration.

Please bear with me in the meantime. Also rest assured that this blog is not being abandoned.

Vacation and Patterns

This has been a gloriously busy and relaxing week all in one. We  chose to stay at home on in order to get some projects finished around the house. Those are coming along a lot more slowly than planned. They will be finished before the week is out. My vehicle developed engine trouble and spent a day at the mechanic's shop being repaired.

Most importantly, there has been lots of time for us just to be together as a family. When left to our own schedule, we tend to eat several small meals a day.  Our family talks a lot and meal or snack times are the perfect time to indulge in this activity. We have been enjoying the freedom to do this.

I have added a new page to this blog with some free patterns on the right side bar. It is titled Rose Trellis Ensemble. The set includes patterns for a cloth and towel. I have also added more Flickr widgets on the left side bar.
